Panettone, a sweet bread, is only found seasonally.  It is also one of my mom & dad’s favorite breads; now they can have it any time of year.  I hope you enjoy it.


1/4 cup Earth Balance or your favorite butter substitute

1/4 cup butter flavored Crisco

2 eggs

3 egg yolks

3 1/2 cups flour

1 cup milk

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup fruitcake mix (I found mine in the bulk section of Winco)

10 drops orange essential oil (purchase here)

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 1/2 tablespoons baking soda


In a mixing bowl, cream butter, Crisco, sugar, eggs & orange essential oil until well combined.

In a separate bowl; whisk together dry ingredients; alternate add to egg mixture with milk & combine well.

Add in fruitcake mix & mix until combined.

Pour into pan of bread mixer & set on lowest setting (mine was quick bread/light) and bake.

(Alternate; bake in Panettone pan at 425°F oven for 35-45 minutes or until a knife or wooden skewer, inserted in center, comes out clean).
