FOG Dessert

This recipe is courtesy of my mom.  Today, my parents are celebrating 45 years of marriage.

My mom was a rock for me when I had to go dairy free.  She was searching out recipes & trying them and sharing with me.  It’s amazing that I didn’t gain weight.  This recipe was one she found in a cook book from the 1940’s, when some foods were rationed during World War II.  Originally called Food of The Gods, my mother didn’t care for that name, so she changed it to FOG.

In celebration of my parent’s anniversary & my mom’s support in my DF journey, I’m sharing this today.  I hope you enjoy it.

9 T crushed soda crackers

2 t. baking powder

2 c. sugar

1/2 pound chopped dates (about 2 cups)

1 c coarsely chopped nuts

6 egg whites beaten stiff

Combine baking soda, crackers and sugar. Add dates and nuts.

Add (Fold in) to egg whites.

Place in 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 325 about 30 min.

It can be topped with whipped cream (Cocowhip) when served.

Have you ever had this dessert?  Comment & let me know.
